Deuteronomy 4 / Proverbs 31 / John 15-16
And you shall search for the LORD your God from there, and you shall find Him when you seek Him with all your heart and with all your being. When you are in straits and all these things find you in time to come, you shall turn back to the LORD your God and heed His voice.
The words that were written and preserved contain a complex set of interlocking formulas that are meant to explain the situation to the sons that exists with them as to their place and condition in the world of humans concerning the origin and existence of sin and death versus the transformation that must happen to them in becoming free of that condition so they can begin to become good sons of the Father. He will not be the God of or Father to the ignorant, unclean, common animals that the humans are in their natural state. It is such a non-natural thing that it's really difficult to write about because it happens on a level that's too deep for words to be able to explain. It's why Paul speaks of a spiritual voice that existed in himself that talked with God on that deep level where only God and the spirit of the man could comprehend, below the cognizing ability of the mind of the animal he still was, which understood natural things. In that sense, being able to understand the words and stories as per what they represent as metaphorical concepts is a foundation that the rest of the journey builds upon, but it's still just that. Continuing to try to generate this knowledge of agreement for ourselves because of the way it makes us feel—that the possibility of knowing more and more is a hope that's growing in us and that we want to continue to be invested in—will at a certain point become less valuable to us than it was in the beginning.
That animal has all sort of traps and tendencies that it likes to continue to hold on to; it is our work to see what they are and examine ourselves as per how they manifest themselves, which is what the teacher is showing us how to do all the time. Most of the time we're too involved and invested in our own dilemma so it's hard to step back and observe how we ourselves are, primarily because that undercuts the way the animal works to hide behind the wall it's built for itself, and those tendencies are just another part of the wall. Sometimes it seems like even writing about this process is futile because it's such a non-natural process where words are so lame. The ideas of God are so complex because they're alive, and they exist on such a deep level so as to not be vulnerable to us humans grabbing and holding onto them like we want to, because we're so simple and one-dimensional, and we're so set in our way of grabbing what we can for ourselves. Even that condition that the human animals are bound to is such a deep and complex thing that it's unapparent, even though it's their primary driving influence.
The LORD your God allotted them [the worshipping of the created things that the humans can't comprehend] to all the peoples under the heavens. But you did the LORD take and He brought you out from the iron's forge, from Egypt, to become for Him a people in estate as this day.
In the day this was written, the universe was even less comprehensible than it is today. Because it was so mysterious the humans had a tendency to worship it because it was that mysterious and incomprehensible force that couldn't be predicted enough to be able to control it, so they had a fear and respect of it they often wanted to attribute to their various gods, which lived up in that vast expanse where they couldn't see or find them. They had to be far away gods that either shined their faces upon the humans who worshipped them, or else made their lives and struggle hard with whatever blow they dealt to their worshippers. But the gods always remained the same—far away and detached from the humans, powerful enough to create the vastness of the universe they observed yet never personally involved with them like they were with each other.
From the day God created a human on the earth and from one end of the heavens to the other end of the heavens, has there been the like of this great thing or has its like been heard? Has a people heard God's voice speaking from the midst of the fire, as you yourself have heard, and still lived? Or has God tried to come to take Him a nation from within a nation in trials and signs and portents and in battle and with a strong hand and an outstretched arm and with great terrors, like all that were shown to know that the LORD is God, there is none besides Him.
The God who chose a certain group of the humans is different than all the other gods that the humans at large were left to worship because He wasn't an amorphous, impersonal force that must have lived somewhere out beyond the heavens, but the humans couldn't know them or what they were like because they didn't ever reveal themselves to them (because they weren't actually there). The God who chose Israel was the God who revealed Himself to them because He wanted them to know Him and He to be able to know them. He didn't want to live way out in some incomprehensible place beyond the heavens, but right in the middle of where they were, so that they could begin a relationship with Him to grow to know Him and His way, and be conformed to that way by being able to comprehend it.
When...you act ruinously and make a sculpted image of any sort and do evil in the eyes of the LORD your God to anger Him...you shall surely perish quickly from upon the land...And the LORD will scatter you among the peoples...and you shall worship their gods that are human handiwork, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell. And you shall search for the LORD your God from there, and you shall find Him when you seek Him with all your heart and with all your being.
The living ideas of God with these Israelites as it exists here as a warning for those who are able to hear its message is actually another reenactment of what happened in the beginning and why the human animals are cursed as they are. Here it is, "If you choose against me, to make the sculpted images to worship them, you will become bound to the sculpted gods of a foreign nation by being forced to worship their worthless idols against your will." It's like the meat they craved, which made them detest God and what He was giving them in contrast to what they wanted, craved and chose to love and give themselves over to, more than being satisfied with what He was giving them. So He gave them the meat, so much they had to gorge themselves with it and it rotted while it was still in their mouths. He gave them the evil that they craved in so much abundance that they became sick and loathed what they thought they loved.
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
The origins of sin and the way the humans are also comes from this kind of ironic reaction of the reality God gave them, what changed according to their choice to trust what the created snake told them was better, instead of listening, trusting and believing the word of the Father. It is the consummate warning for those who are chosen to become sons to the Father. They loved the snake who offered them something for their selves which didn't include God The snake was only a created thing put there to give the humans a choice, so they weren't forced to be sons of God, but could actually choose to love God by listening, believing, trusting and obeying what He said, or this other thing that seemed alluring, but went against the desires and wishes of Him who created them *and* the snake. What God didn't want was a bunch of wild creatures that wanted things for their own selves, that were more interested in their own aspirations than anything else, that would see something that appeared to be a certain way (good to the eyes) and want to possess it for themselves and not include God in the decision, but would have to exclude Him in that decision because it was against His wishes for them to do what they were urged to do because of the way it appeared (even though it wasn't actually that way, but only appeared that way "to the eyes"). What God wanted was a family of children who loved and took care of each other because that's what the Father wanted—a good family of good children who wanted to be good to each other and not treat each other as enemies because they beheld each other as competitors who were trying to get what the other needed to get for their own selves, which is a really good description of the humans in their natural wild animal state.
This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother's were righteous. Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death. Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him.
No human father would want his son to love, honor and respect him because of brute force or the threat of death. That disposition of imperfect love comes from how God is and wants to be with His own sons. So the choice is probably the most important thing in the relationship. That is why the devil was created and still exists, so that the sons of God would be able to have and make the choice to accept or reject that offer of God, not just so they can get something from Him (the christian mode of being able to choose this life and also get some kind of guarantee of "going to heaven" after it's all over), but because they choose Him by doing the harder thing—saying no to the true devil (the prince of this world), which is the nature that rules the world full of humans.
And you shall know today and take to your heart that the LORD, He is God in the heavens above and on the earth below, there is none else.
There was no jesus god that was eternally living with the father god and the holy spirit god, that was waiting for the time when he would for no apparent reason all of a sudden come down to earth and die on the cross for the whole world so that anyone who believes the lie that really can't even be understood (because it's made up) can "go to heaven," which translates into surviving forever, a condition that is not surprisingly appealing to animals whose entire lives are spent trying to survive. There is no holy spirit god, which is the good god who fights with the evil, fallen angel demigod (satan). There is no devil god who goes around trying to get the "good people" to be "bad people," and take them to hell with him to be tortured forever. There is no burning hell, there is only the grave, where all created things go to become and and remain one with the temporary creation forever (as they decompose into the soil and do become one with it in real terms). All these lies were made up in a time when there was thought to be many mythical Roman and Greek gods, so it makes sense that the lie would create more gods than exist, which has happened since the beginning of time.
I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
The Father lived in the body of the Son, and that life was called the spirit, because God is spirit, not natural, created matter as humans and plants are. The devil existed as the viable choice that had power, so that it actually could be a real choice and not just some theoretical wishy-washiness. The human either goes into the ground and becomes one with it forever (eternally tortured in the burning fires of hell), as the organic matter that is nourishment for another created thing that takes its place until its cycle is terminated; or the human is remembered by the Father who by His word made him clean when He declared His intention to remember him. When that happens, the created thing which was once destined to otherwise just remain the organic matter that it became when its existence as something with "life" in it was terminated, becomes transformed into spirit matter, which is the matter and life form God takes and exists as—far beyond the powers of the humans to be able to comprehend any more than spiritual, not subject to the physical and natural laws that every created thing is subject to.
I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.
When the Son went to the Father, then they did become One as the Son's life was completely engulfed by the Father's, so that the Son could live because he became a part of the Father's body. That union of the Father and the Son, while the Son lived as a human and after, is what is represented by the many relationships among the creatures in the world. A human who gives birth to another actually has a little part of their own life in the offspring that is produced by that union, so that the offspring is attached and bonded to its parents by more than what is apparent. In the same way, the Son had the Father's spirit DNA in him, which bonded him with the Father, even while he was in his human body. After the Son was remembered by the Father, who promised to redeem him from hell (the grave) so that he would not decompose and become bonded to the created world of humans as organic matter, because the Son chose the Father and not the devil (the viable alternative that existed by the will of the Father so that the Son actually would have a choice).
You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
If the Son existed as a god before and after his human episode, then that very important choice he made, upon which the entire family's existence rests, would have been not a choice at all because a god would have not been able to be beguiled by the serpent if he chose to follow it.
The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again.
The Father would have no reason to reward him for choosing the right, if the choice wasn't real, and everything that relates to salvation for the sons is then all just a theoretical joke. That is the lie that the entirety of christianity rests on since the Son was retrojectively made into a god by the humans, along with the holy spirit god and the devil god. The lie isn't seen anywhere except the lie that is maintained by the humans for their own good. The truth is reinforced by being a copy that is mimicked by the natural creation and the preserved words, what can actually be observed by the sons who are given the ability to see and understand the deep mystery of the hidden, invisible Father and the secret message He wants them to know.
Be you on the watch, lest you forget the covenant of the LORD your God which He has sealed with you, and you make for yourselves a sculpted image of any sort, against which the LORD has charged you. For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
Only be you on the watch and watch yourself closely lest you forget the things that your own eyes have seen and lest they swerve from your heart—all the days of your life, and you shall make them known to your sons and to your sons' sons...And me did the LORD charge at that time to teach you statutes and laws for you to do in the land into which you are crossing over to take hold of it.
And you shall be very watchful of yourselves, for you saw no image on the day the LORD spoke to you from the midst of the fire, lest you act ruinously and make you a sculpted image of any likeness...
The gods of all the nations of the earth were made after the likenesses of things which could be seen with the eyes, because they could control those gods and make them into any kind of god they wanted, to give/get them what they needed. The people made gods in the forms of humans, animals, birds, insects, fish, and celestial bodies, which the Israelites were already guilty of doing once, and obviously would be tempted to do again after they were delivered into the land. All these things were available for the eyes to see, so the temptation was to make images they could understand because they comprehended them. If they were able to be understood, they could be controlled, which should be noted as the enduring thing that the humans keep repeating throughout their history of making up their gods. God set Himself apart to the Israelites by the fact that He wasn't able to be seen like that, so He could just be figured and then an image could be made which represented His likeness. If the Israelites had that image to hold and possess, then they wouldn't need God, but could just say that the image was their god, which is a lot easier for the humans to do than have to wait and listen, choose and obey what they couldn't control.
And you shall worship their gods that are human handiwork, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.
He was not a god like the other gods, which didn't do anything because they were just made by the hands of men. He acted on what He wanted to do, and showed the Israelites that He could do things, unlike the impotent, mute gods made by human hands. He actively pulled them out of Egypt with a strong and purposeful hand, and was actively clearing the path before them of nations mightier than they were, by His power so that His purpose could be fulfilled.
But there was a catch—although He had a voice that they heard coming out of the fire, He had no form that they could hold on to, to control Him by the ways the humans need to control everything. They couldn't ever carve any likeness of Him, because His form is spiritual, not natural, and the spiritual cannot be fathomed or controlled by created beings. The Israelites knew that they were the only people whose God was real and true, and powerful to do things, however they weren't able to treat Him like all the other people treated their gods, which weren't actually real. They just thought they were because His arm had not been revealed to them; they didn't know the real God so they had to make up their own gods, the good gods who were on their side and would fight against the bad gods for their sake (for the sake of the humans who made them, of course). It's the same mentality that created the christian gods some 1600 years ago by the great whore of babylon, the mother of all her prostitute daughters, and which keeps them alive even through today, by those daughters of hers (christians). It's all a lie made up by the humans for the specific purpose that they could control it, which is not what the real God doesn't allow.
The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.
The Israelites wanted to control Him by making an image they could look at and feel safe. Because they could see with their eyes and behold a god made by their hands, they felt like it existed. But their God, the real God, had no form so they couldn't make any image of Him, and had to instead copy and run after what the other nations did, who worshipped the creatures instead of the creator.
All this I have told you so that you will not go astray.
The sons who existed in the first century did not control God; they waited for Him and the new form He would take after He consumed the life of the Son and the two became One. Then it was in those in whom it lived and existed, as it had been in the Son when he was in his human body. He was telling them this very thing as recorded in the John chapters, which totally baffled them because they couldn't understand it—it was something that was too far above their ability to, as humans who hadn't yet been inhabited by the life, yet were destined to, according to the will and purpose of God for that to happen. Then they would understand what before could not be understood, except by only the One who was being inhabited by the life of the Father (the spirit).
Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father. In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.
How close is this parallel to our own situation, as we can observe so many counterfeit little gods made up by the humans, each one claiming that their god is the real one, yet all of them wrong? Just like the Israelite sons who chose the Father instead of the cravings inside them (the devil, which is the nature that rules the humans), we know that our God is the only God, because He has revealed His intention to us to create light in that place which before was darkness, but now is lit up by the light of the knowledge of the Lord's life in our heart and mind. It's never in the bag though; we have to keep choosing the right and rejecting the wrong, so the life can grow in us instead of the weeds that were there before the light came. How do we know that what we have is real? It certainly isn't being validated by any of the humans we have known, inasmuch as they accept our testimony.
We have to accept that the real God and the real Jesus are elusive to our natural minds, desires and needs. They DO NOT become what we want/need/crave them to be, according to the nature that rules us to give us those desires and cravings. We have a definite need to buy God so we can own and hold on to Him, to try to make Him into something that can pacify our constant fears, to control Him like the Israelites wanted to—to use Him for our own ends. But just as He had no form to them, He is just as elusive to us, for the same purpose because we're all from the same stock as the Israelites. We cannot fit Him in to the way we process situations and make our selves feel safe, although we will constantly try to do that because it's the only way we know.
That way is the way of the animal who needs to feel safe and secure, out of the danger of being eaten by another animal or being swept away by some natural event, or merely starving to death because we haven't preserved our selves adequately. The animal also has an active component to its need to feel like it's surviving in an emotional (egotistical) sense. This kicks into gear when it feels physically safe, so at all times it's being ruled by the need to survive in one way or another.
Emotional survival is the need to be more right, better, more intelligent, etc., all toward the end of being the most acceptable we can be, which is currency in the culture of the animals. Whatever we can do to make our selves more acceptable is what we are driven to try to employ within whatever power we have to do it. The hope of being more acceptable is executed in many ways—building culturally valuable things up around our selves, becoming more physically valuable, according to the culture by whatever means, building up a culturally valuable identity, etc.
There are all sorts of things that we naturally find our little earthly joys in, our ways we learned to satisfy and fulfill our selves, by our own hand. The examples are living in the idea and prospect of getting something in any of its various forms—going to the mall, store or flea market fills us with an idea and prospect of all the things we could have that would give us that satisfaction. Once we buy the thing, it doesn't ever give us what that idea promised us we would get. But it's just one little example of a thing that keeps us going, hoping for some kind of satisfaction.
Another example would be in the idea of the prospect of getting more money, which in our mind is something that is going to satisfy and fulfill us. In our minds, money can get us all kinds of things, by our own hand we can use it to satisfy and fulfill ourselves in many different ways. Having money is, on the most fundamental level, a way of placating that fear of death that is inherent in us, another drive of the animal nature. It is also culturally valuable to possess money, so our identity can be immediately enhanced by it. We can become another person altogether merely by having money, inasmuch as we are treated differently by the other humans, being respected and envied by what we have. Those who didn't love us before will all of a sudden give us their counterfeit love, which would go away if we all of a sudden didn't have it. Another example is enhancing our outward identity so that we appear more acceptable, more valuable in the eyes of the other humans. Beauty treatments, operations, and exercise are commonly acceptable things we do to enhance our outward appearance, and therefore our identity since that's all most of the humans can see. Another valuable thing the humans love and run after is to secure and maintain an identity marked by integrity, honor and respect, being acceptable by being what the humans want us to be so we're not a threat to them.
All of this is done by the humans as if it were not a thing at all to do, that it is everyone's right to participate in the ways of the humans so that they can allay these constant fears that exist in everyone. Yet if you tell them that that is the animal nature which does that they will ridicule you. That's because, just like the knowledge of the true God of Israel wasn't made available to any other group, it isn't available for them to see and comprehend. It seems like a frustrating thing but it's a good thing. Frustrating because no one will believe what we know is true so we can't find any validation from the other humans, but a blessing because it means we'll only be able to find the validation that we want, the kind that is even worth anything, from the Father. Also, the truth of God isn't watered down by everyone having it revealed to them (christianity)—only the sons know the real truth because the real truth is only revealed to them.
We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.
It will continue to be frustrating and difficult because we will undoubtedly keep trying to control God by the means we used to employ when we were mere men, lost amongst the world of animals with no separate identity than that. Even though we see each time it cannot be done, we keep trying because the way of the animal, the old way, is all we know. Eventually, hopefully, we'll gradually learn, but only if we keep choosing the right and rejecting the wrong. Until then it's going to be a hard road of suffering and we will be forced to understand that we have been put into the situation where we have to offer up groans and petitions to the Lord, as he did to his Father while he lived out his earthly existence.
During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
We can't just fix the situation by any means we used to use, but instead have to call on the Lord to save us each day. It doesn't carry over like we want it to; the animal hates being in that kind of dependent situation where we have to keep coming back and asking for our life to be given to us from the Lord's hand, and there's nothing we can do about it on our own, apart from him. Each day we have to gather the living bread, to work for what has been given to us, and it doesn't last until the next day.
I am the bread of life. Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
Eating is something the human does every day, to keep himself alive. Eating the living bread is something the son has to learn to do or he can't progress into the maturity of one who isn't led by the animal but by the Lord, who is the head of all the sons of God. This is not theory, this is an actual thing which has to be done, but is so far away from our ability to comprehend its meaning and the way we are required to do it. We continue to look for the Lord's truth and life in the natural, but he cannot be found there. That is what those who don't know him resort to doing, because it's the only thing available to them.
And you came forward and stood at the bottom of the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire to the heart of the heavens—darkness, cloud, and dense fog. And the LORD spoke to you from the midst of the fire.
The sound of words you did hear but no image did you see except the sound.
And He told you His covenant that He charged you to do, the Ten Words, and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.
God established to His people way back in the OT about who He wasn't, that is, a God who could be controlled by their inevitable need to define Him, to be able to see him with their eyes and therefore put Him in the realm of the seeable and manipulable, like the gods of all the other people. Their gods did things for them, at their behest—whatever they wanted the gods to do. That is the same as what all the religious do today, as they define God the way that best suits their needs so that they can live their lives as animals, and yet hold on to the belief that they are somehow valuable to God, enough to be granted what is reserved for His sons.
The modern prayers are the same as those who worshipped which god they thought they needed help from, gods which would make them fertile, or powerful, or whatever they thought was a valuable thing—whatever would enhance their earthly existences. So goes the modern requests of the religious communities' gods for them—more money, better jobs, peace and safety for themselves in their earthly existences. And they just keep pumping out the children, thinking they can extend their earthly existences past the grave as an earthly part of themselves is left to carry on the life they started in them.
Our God has no form, there is no image of Him that we can carve, even into our brain. He isn't a God who can satisfy our natural desires and needs for things that enhance our earthly existence. The earthly doesn't mean anything to the sons, however that's not something obvious to us for a very long time. After a long time of suffering (becoming separated from the natural creation) in this natural body, offering up groans, cries and petitions to the Lord, he gives us the only thing that can satisfy us. The love of our Father, in tangible terms, is what we want, but it's so elusive and it cannot be found in the natural or by natural means. It can only come after a period of abandoning the old way and then learning the new way, becoming a new creature unlike the old that we were, and unlike all the other earthly creatures.
A wife (the true bride) of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
