Numbers 32 / Proverbs 23 / John 5
I do not accept praise from men, but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?
The traditions of men and their need to turn the truth of God into a mockery for their own sake just keeps happening because they're driven to want to control their environment and the humans in that environment. If they have the power to, they most likely will because the humans are filled with a powerful, driving fear that makes them always act in the same certain, fear-appeasing ways to try to lessen the blow of the bleak reality they all face, of not knowing and not being known. The way they deal with it is what is important to God because it defines who they really are before Him and what they should expect to get from Him, if anything.
But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?
In the time of Jesus and the wild animal Jews in power who confronted him, it was Moses whose words they distorted and perverted so as to claim and retain that power base which left them in control of their own natural environment. But Moses would condemn them because his message was flatly against the kind of thing that evolved in Israel, from which they themselves mostly benefited at the expense of their presumed brother and neighbor whom Moses commanded should be held in high esteem. Instead, those who evolved into the power puppies used and exploited those who were their neighbors and kept them down. In short, those who claimed the role of shepherd were actually being wolves, but they hid behind their cloaks of righteousness that made it look like they were doing something in God's name. But they didn't know God so they were hiding behind His name, yet acting fully in the interests of the only gods they served, which were their selves, their existences, their lives. To the God who would have them shepherd His people like sheep without a shepherd, they thumbed their noses. To the people they could have looked out for to encourage them to find the Father, they treated with disdain and contempt because to them, the poor were just in their way of getting more of whatever currency they wanted to get for themselves—gold, silver, land, name, family, worth, respect, admiration, enviable positions and identities, etc. In short the rabbis, priests and other jews who had the power created a different Moses, one who would allow them to fit into their system that evolved by their own hand in a way that wasn't intended by the God who gave the words to Moses, and whose intentions for those words were a certain thing, which also got distorted by them so that it served their needs, and not the other way around.
Today it's the same type of deal, only instead of Moses' word, intention and identity as that which was distorted, it is Jesus the Son of God's word and intention that has been changed, because his identity was perverted to the status of eternally existing god so many centuries ago, which makes everything about him, his hope, purpose and accomplishment—and especially what he means to the sons of God—a disappointment and disgrace. Because he was elevated to a position of being equal with the Father, as an eternally existing god who was always with the Father, and because all other versions of his actual identity got quashed by the humans, the entire purpose of his work and identity as the firstborn among many brothers has been lost. He cannot be a brother and model to those who come from human origins is he does not come from the same. If he were an eternally existing god, then there is a gap that exists between the sons of God and their savior which makes their identities impossible to equate, so he can never be a model and example for the sons of God who are trying to find their true Father. The world has just been so inundated with this version of the made up jesus god, and the truth of the reality of who he really was has been quashed for so long, that the world of the humans has just been in a state of complete darkness concerning the condition which existed for just a short while in the first century, before the abominating unclean animals came in to the temple to contaminate it by putting their instinct driven animal will in the temple instead of the will and purpose of the Father, which is what drove the Son of God.
This driving force is what binds us to him, rather than the animal instinct which has been driving us for so many years and wants to continue to drive us. If we allow it to drive us then we're allowing ourselves to be bound to the natural creation which is bound hand in hand with this drive of instinct that holds the creation together. It makes the animals behave as they're supposed to e.g., a goose flies in a certain direction at a certain time of season not because it thinks about it and weighs all the possibilities then makes a decision, but because it's driven by an overpowering instinct to do that. It can't even help itself; it just goes and it goes correctly because of what seems like magic. The same kind of driving power of instinct causes a different type of animal in the same way, yet the drive is completely different in the details about what it's supposed to do and be doing, according to what kind of animal it is e.g., a bear is driven by instinct to do something different than the goose, and the salmon something different than both of the others because they are particular kinds of animals. Animals of the same kind are driven by the same kind of influence of instinct without deciding, to do the same things. Even though they all are driven by instinct to do different things, it is that presence of the same kind of powerful force that works upon them that binds them together as part of the same thing.
The humans, though they always want to separate themselves from the rest of the animals because they think they're smarter so they can exploit them more easily, are actually just like all the other animals—driven by the instincts that are naturally in them to be, act like and have the same propensities toward being the same kind of animal as each other, but different than the other species of animals different than themselves. However just as the swimming, flying and crawling things are all driven by the same force of power that works in more of a fundamental way across the entire spectrum of all of them, so the humans are also driven by the same force of power of the instinct that is naturally in them. Even though the details of what it drives them to do is a little bit different, it is nonetheless the same thing, because that fundamental drive is about surviving and prolonging its own species and nothing else really matters than obeying that drive of instinct that controls whichever animal we're talking about.
Every of the different kinds of animals are driven by instinct to survive in the particular way that allows them to, as per their particular species of animal, yet what's the same about them is that they're all driven by the instinct that's naturally in them to survive, which makes them all fundamentally the same. The humans have evolved to a point (mostly) where their physical needs are usually met i.e., in the modern world they don't usually have to worry about starving or freezing to death. Because of that condition, their propensity to survive shifts to more intangible areas than merely worrying about finding food and shelter, to more intangible things, yet they are actually the same because the drive is the same, and they're really just doing the same things because it's fundamentally about survival. The way that their drive to keep surviving is a little more obscure than the other animals, however it's basically the same, toward the end of surviving but just in a different mode of survival than the basic finding food and shelter mode.
In their own particular mode of survival, which is different than the other animals on the surface yet fundamentally the same, the humans are driven to survive by building valuable things around themselves that become part of their identities. For instance, their ubiquitous drive to get and have more money is very explainable in that money allows them to feel like they have a sort of force field around them. They feel less likely to starve to death when they have a cushion of money and the things that the money has bought them, along with the enhanced identity that money has generated for them amongst the other animals. When the thought of starving to death gets lost on that scenario becoming so unlikely that it won't happen, then that drive in them changes and becomes a protection against being what they are in their actual identity—just another animal that is naked and alone, just another piece of an impersonal creation that is always on the verge of imminent death and putrefaction. The fundamental fear that exists and can be observed in all wild animals is the same fear that exists in the humans, and what makes them all fundamentally the same. It's what makes them what they fundamentally are in their core, just like all the rest of the animals and not very special, as they always like to assume just because they're al little smarter. However, that intelligence they possess obviously doesn't allow them to act in ways that are much different than how they're all programmed to act, according to the instincts that drive them to be what they are, so it's not a transforming intelligence.
I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me. And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
The words that the real Jesus spoke were about undermining the animal tendencies that created a corrupted view of God, by the humans' undermining the word and purpose of the very God they claimed to serve so that the lie they created about Him that they propagate would actually work to serve them. That is the scenario around his dealings with the jewish leaders. Instead of the commonly held notions of them being evil oppressors and sinful men (usually held by those who consider themselves to be aligned with the good jesus god, and themselves good), these leaders can be seen as common animals who merely had a better opportunity to build up more stuff around them than the other humans who called themselves jews. In so doing, though, they also undermined the teaching of the one whom they claim to follow so that they can do whatever they want and also feel like they're the good people who are blessed by the God who instructed Moses. Jesus condemned the animals for merely being animals who were completely given over to the nature that drove them to be mere animals, which is against what God told Moses.
Do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?
His teachings and admonitions on the other hand were for the humans who were chosen by the Father to come away from that common animal identity, as Jesus himself had been separated from it even though he came partly from human stock. Being born of the Father by the spirit, yet also of a woman, made him a hybrid between God and man—the only one of his kind. Yet his kind was a beginning for all those who would find the Father, who would have to be as he was in order to find the way because the common animals, which all humans are in their fundamental selves, cannot come near to God, so they can't find the way and can't know Him or be known by Him. They cannot be a part of His will and purpose because they're common animals driven by the wild animal instinct of fear and hiding from God (like the first humans) and not of love and sonship because they are so unlike Him at their core they cannot just be like Him, because they're not. They can't just be made into sons because they want to, because they think they deserve to or because they think that God looks at them as fondly as they look upon themselves. With all their religious systems they've ever created, that is the foundational lie that propels each one. They think they're something other than what they are, when really they're just flesh and blood animals like all the rest.
Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.
I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.
The truth of God isn't something that can be purchased the same way the humans buy houses, cars, careers and educations—so that once bought it can be owned and controlled by them to use for their own purposes, according to their never ending need to appease their many fears and satisfy their many cravings, which they always feel is their right to do. The sons of God know the way to their Father, and it never goes through the humans or their self-serving institutions because it's not for public consumption; it is hidden and secret, controlled by the Father.
Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding.
How much does the truth cost? The humans think it's going to be cheap and easy, just like any other material thing they buy and sell; or that it's going to go the way they would have it to go, or the way someone told them it would go. The animal is relentlessly lying to us, telling us one thing when another is true, and the humans will just make it worse. The truth is hidden and secret, even to those who know they are sons.
Before the conversion we were just happy animals without the burden of knowing that we were being given the knowledge that finding the treasure of God's truth was possible. But it wasn't just being given to us, as we assumed when the conversion was just starting. That thinking comes from the lies of the humans we were exposed to before, who say things like the salvation that comes from God is a free gift and all you gotta do is show up and be like them, then you have everything you need, which is a crock. When we thought we had been given everything because of the many miracles, we were actually only being told that it was possible to find that treasure we wanted all our lives.
Once we know we've been chosen, then the journey just begins, and we don't just "arrive," like the animal in us wants to make us believe all the time—that there is no struggle anymore because we're children of God and now nothing can touch us. Now is just when it gets hard. Now is when we stop floating downstream with all the other fish and have to turn around and swim against the current, and everything we do will be met with the resistance that we are wrong and crazy to do what we're doing because "There's nothing upstream, there's just the current, pulling everyone downstream, as you can plainly see."
Now that we have the trust in front of us, it's not like before when we could find our direction to what we needed in all the many different ways the humans employ to get what they need. Firstly, what we "need" gets whittled away to practically nothing. As humans we needed so many things, which became our right to have them because of the conspiracy of the humans to form the consensus to protect that right. So we also bought into the idea that it was our right to have and live our lives and pretty much do what we want as long as we don't violate the humans' laws. We could get and have our own life, build our own career; we could work and pay for then own our own stuff that we could surround ourselves with, and we could acquire our own human identity amongst the humans that we could work to protect and maintain if we chose to.
By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.
Now there is only one way to go, and the tactics we used to use are of no avail. When we used to be able to count on so many things, they have been pulled out from under us, and we have to embrace the thing we hate and always ran from before. There's only one way to our Father, and it is through the dark passageway of suffering because we can't take the animal ways or strategies with us.
Do not let your heart envy sinners,
but always be zealous for the fear of the LORD.
We can't work and manipulate our way along the path to get what we need; we have to wait for what the Teacher will give us, and that by faith that he actually will as the animal keeps pounding us that it's not going to happen, that none of it is true, that we are crazy to make all this up, and we should just open our eyes and look at all the people not agreeing with us. How could they all be wrong?
How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only One?
There will be many voices that tell us we are wrong around us and in us. There will be those who claim to know what's best for us, but it's just them wanting to get some agreement from us, for us to do their will, to satisfy their egotistical cravings instead of what we hear the voice of the Lord telling us is the right way. It will be hard, but it's the only way, against the world and the animal nature of those who don't know, and even the animal in our own heart. We'll get it from every side, but it's the only way to be becoming clean. The accuser will accuse us of being wrong, and when we look around everything will also point to that being the case as far as what can be perceived in the natural order of the humans.
Do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?
Moses wrote about Jesus' coming, and they all formed the consensus of waiting for him, but that consensus was what they had made up about him to fit their needs of what they wanted him to be, look like, say and do. Then he came, but few recognized him, even when he was doing miraculous things. They didn't want to accept him because he didn't fit with what their earthly expectations told them, or what they desired to behold or accept. When we think we have the truth figured out we still don't know and we have to go further, deeper into what seems on the outside just elusive craziness—searching for something that's not there. As we go deeper that will seem more apparent, because we're propped up less so we'll need to have even more faith, which is the way the Lord builds our faith, and that is the only way we can please the Father.
Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
What does "earnestly" mean? Its meaning keeps changing as per our ability to seek Him. We cannot have what a mature son has without actually walking on that path, suffering as we become separated from what we used to love and count on to give us our direction, fulfillment and peace. Contrary to our desires, we don't just magically appear all of a sudden mature and responsible, able to choose the right and reject the wrong, and at peace with the Father and the Son. That thinking does align with the animal desire within us (and the voice of the liars without) that the road to God be an easy one, but not the spiritual reality of the words of Paul, who did become a responsible son of God. But he wasn't in the beginning what he was when he wrote these preserved words:
This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment.
We just don't know about so many things now because we're just plain young and ignorant. We can only speculate and theorize about how it is, or will be. That's how the spirit led us up to this point, with knowledge about the truth of the Lord's existence apart from anything we ever heard. There's no "arriving," or resting, until it's our time to rest. As we go further it gets harder, but we also lose what we have to lose to start becoming clean, and our hope is narrowed from the wide field of all the little temporary things we used to hope in all the time, to that one thing—being found worthy to be called a responsible son who is able to choose the right and reject the wrong, to know a little more how to stay close, which is getting nearer to the Father's love—to find that treasure.
We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
Let us make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their (the Israelites') example of disobedience.
Being brought by God into the land was not easy. There were other people planted there already. They had lives and families, and were prepared for the plundering by raiding bands that wanted what they had. The Israelites had to believe, by the hope they had from knowing God did things for them before, that He would continue to do as He said even though it didn't seem possible to their eyes. It became even harder when they intermingled themselves with the people already living in the land, because then it became harder to see and maintain what was true, what God had promised.
Their situation is the copy of ours, ours is the spiritual reality while theirs the copy. The Egypt we're coming out of is the world ruled by animals, the way of the humans that we used to live by and be, relying on to get us what we need and where we're going. The inhabitants of the land are all the ways of the animal that can lead us away from staying close to the Father, what the animal knows and loves, what it accepts. Relying on God to drive the inhabitants out of the land before them was a tremendously difficult thing to do. Keeping separated from them was crucial to maintain that belief. The way of the son of God is not a natural thing.
We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written:
"No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment:
"For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?"
But we have the mind of Christ.
